Peace and Democracy Party (BDP) deputy Faysal Sarıyıldız, jailed in Diyarbakır D Type Closed Prison, refused to receive medical treatment in protest against the insulting practices he was subject to in the hospital, reported DIHA (Dicle News Agency) on Thursday.
Şırnak deputy Sarıyıldız who made a statement through his counsel said that he and other inmates who were taken to hospital to receive treatment for their health problems were subjected to insulting approaches and practices while in the hospital. Sarıyıldız told the followings as to the reason why he refused to be treated at the hospital; “We were held in handcuffs until we reached the doctor's room, with a soldier tied to me with a handcuff put on my another arm, and us being accompanied by a group of soldiers under the command of a specialist sergeant."
Sarıyıldız noted that the soldiers accompanying him to the hospital did not change their attitude despite the requests he made to them to end the insulting handcuff imposition.
BDP deputy remarked that he had refused to be treated because of the insulting approaches they were subject to, and underlined that he would continue to do so despite the health problems he is suffering due to his herniated disk, liver and stomach problems.
Stressing that the soldiers' approach towards political prisoners could not be regarded as an individual attitude, Sarıyıldız added that some soldiers took courage from the AKP government and treated political prisoners with hostility.
