Joint action by the Jineoloji Network and a local choir in Marseille demands “Freedom for Öcalan”

In Marseille, members of the Jineoloji Network and a local choir organised a demonstration for the freedom of Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Öcalan.

No news has been received for 43 months from Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Öcalan, who has been held in İmralı Island Prison under severe isolation conditions for more than 25 years. Abdullah Öcalan is being held under conditions of absolute incommunicado and torture, and his right to see his lawyers and family members is being usurped. While the Turkish state insists on the İmralı torture system on unlawful grounds, the ‘Freedom for Öcalan – a Political Solution to the Kurdish Question’ campaign, which was launched globally on 10 October 2023, is receiving support from different social segments day by day on its first anniversary.

As part of the global days of action for the freedom of Abdullah Öcalan, a demonstration was organised at the entrance of Marseille's St-Charles station.

Members of the Jineoloji Network and the local activist choir La Lutte Enchentée demanded freedom for the Kurdish leader who has been held in İmralı Island Prison in Turkey since his handover to Turkey as a result of an international conspiracy in 1999 and has not been heard from for 43 months.

The demonstration drew attention to the 25 years of isolation in İmralı and protested against the international silence on the unlawful treatment of the Kurdish leader.
