Justice for Roboski campaign

Justice for Roboski campaign

“We do not want military jurisdiction” signature campaign is going on, demanding justice for 34 Kurdish civilians who were massacred by Turkish warplanes in the village of Roboski in Şırnak's Uludere district on 28 December 2011.

The signature campaign led by peace activists İbrahim Yaylalı and Meral Geylani was launched in Şırnak on 1 September, International Day of Peace, to protest against the chief public prosecutor's office of Diyarbakır for ruling the ongoing Roboski case out of its jurisdiction and transferring the case to the military prosecutor of the chief of General Staff.

Two peace activists will continue collecting signatures in the main Kurdish city Diyarbakır at the weekend. The signatures collected in the campaign will be sent to Turkish President Abdullah Gül on 29 December, the second anniversary of the massacre. Signatures are also being collected in many other cities including Istanbul, Ankara and İzmir.

The demands highlighted by the signature campaign are; the ending of the government repression against families of the victims, the return of the case file from military to civilian jurisdiction and the removal of the obstacles to fair trial.
