Kars Municipality co-mayor Şevin Alaca, who was removed from office by AKP-MHP and replaced by a state-appointed trustee, was arrested on 8 October 2020. The second hearing of her trial was held on Thursday at Kars 2nd High Criminal Court. Alaca under trial on charges of "membership of an illegal organization" and she attended the hearing from Diyarbakır Women's Closed Prison, where she is detained, through the Audio and Video Information System (SEGBİS).

Speaking at the hearing, Alaca’s lawyers demanded the release of her client considering the period of detention.

The court, however, decided to keep Alaca in prison.

The next hearing will be on 6 April.
