KCDK-E condemns Norway’s extradition of Taşdemir to Turkey

“On the night of July 2, Taşdemir was taken from the camp she was staying in by the police and sent to Norway. Following lightning fast court proceedings completed in 12 hours, Taşdemir was put in handcuffs and shackles and extradited to Turkey."

The European Kurdish Democratic Society Congress (KCDK-E) Co-Presidential Council issued a written statement and protested the Norwegian government’s extradition of Kurdish politician Gülizar Taşdemir.

KCDK-E pointed out that the Norwegian government turned Kurdish politician and women’s activist Gülizar Taşdemir over to Turkey in a rush today and said: An activist in the Kurdish women’s movement, Gülizar Taşdemir had applied for asylum in Norway in 2015. The Norwegian state has disregarded international laws for asylum seekers, rejected her appeal and demanded she leave the country.

Taşdemir, who can’t return to her country where her life is in danger, applied for asylum in Germany but this appeal was also rejected and she was sent back to Norway. On the night of July 2, Taşdemir was taken from the camp she was staying in by the police and sent to Norway. Following lightning fast sham court proceedings completed in 12 hours, Taşdemir was put in handcuffs and shackles and extradited to Turkey.

The Norwegian state has committed a crime in disregarding international asylum law that secures the individual’s right to life. Millions of people have sought refuge in Europe due to ongoing wars in the Middle East and Kurdistan, and Kurdish politician and women’s activist Gülizar Taşdemir is one of them. The dirty politics the AKP/MHP fascist dictatorship runs with international forces against Kurdish politicians in Europe in recent years is obvious to see. And the Norwegian state has submitted to dictator Erdoğan’s fascist policies.”

KCDK-E stressed that dictator Erdoğan has taken thousands of Kurdish politicians hostage in prisons in Turkey and Kurdistan utilizing laws of war, and is imposing this policy on European states over Kurds and politicians. KCDK-E added that Norway and Europe are complicit in this dirty politics and war enacted over the Kurds, by giving billions of Euros to Turkey and handing over refugees fleeing the war in the Middle East to their murderers.

KCDK-E said Norway has joined the bandwagon of policies to arrest, deport, restrict and criminalize Kurdish politicians, and added: “We as the KCDK-E and TJK-E condemn the extradition of Kurdish politician and women’s activist Gülizar Taşdemir to Turkey. We fear for Gülizar Taşdemir’s life.”

KCDK-E and TJK-E called on their assemblies, constituents and allies to protest in front of Norwegian consulates starting from July 5 (today).
