KCK suspects are tried today for being Kurdish

Speaking after attending the KCK (Kurdistan Communities Union) Istanbul trial in Silivri Prison complex on 10 June, Peace and Democracy Party (BDP) Bitlis deputy Hüsamettin Zenderlioðlu said the court put forward no concrete evidences against KCK detainees who are accused of being executives and members of the KCK organization.

Remarking that the ruling party is restraining thousands of people hoping to submit them to its will, BDP deputy pointed out that the unprecedented unlawfulness of the AKP government intends to impose its own solutions on the Kurdish people. Zenderlioðlu continued saying that: “The AKP uses specially authorized courts to constrain thousands of democratic and patriotic people from politics. Governments and the “Independence Courts” of the early Republic have gone into a change so far but the mentality of the state remains the same; taking opponent circles and the Kurdish people to court. KCK suspects are tried today for being Kurdish, not KCK members.”

Zenderlioðlu also evaluated recent discussions on the restriction of duties and authorities of Specially Authorized Courts which – he underlined - were first put into force in the period of the AKP government. Pointing out that Erdoðan’s government openly plays with laws and legislation in accordance with its own needs and conjunctural changes, Zenderlioðlu added that; “Hundreds of people are held under arrest on the basis of secret witness testimonies and without any objective and concrete evidence or documents. The AKP government is in search of new changes because of the reactions KCK arrests has caused in both Turkish and international public opinion. Erdoðan’s government will as a matter of fact make no amendments, it will continue with the same policy offering only a cosmetic change. However, Kurds have reacted strongly against these policies and have affected them with their strong will.”
