KNK general meeting begun in Brussels

The Kurdistan National Congress (KNK) 12th general meeting began in Brussels with the participation of representatives of more than 30 political parties and NGOs from Kurdistan and diaspora, over 200 delegates and guests as well as KONGRA-GEL president Remzi Kartal, KCK Executive council member Zübeyir Aydar and Dana Sofi on behalf of Federal Kurdistan Parliament.

The two-days general meeting which is held in a process of exceptional developments in Kurdistan and the Middle East is expected to address the subjects of the escalated war circumstances in North Kurdistan, the severe isolation imposed on PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan for 305 days, debates on political negotiations, developments in Syria and South and West Kurdistan in consideration of the expectations for the National Congress. Besides the political agenda, KNK members will also address the internal agenda.

Following the statements by KNK president Tahir Kemalizadeh and Dana Sofi on behalf of Federal Kurdistan Parliament, KONGRA-GEL president Remzi Kartal made a speech in which he pointed to the strategy problem as the most important matter in Kurdistan in the current situation. Kartal in this respect called attention to the National Congress which, he underlined, should be based on the basic principles which PKK leader Öcalan brought forward and Kongra Gel and KCK announced to public as proposals for the Congress.

Kartal remarked that the developments in Kurdistan and the Middle East provide great opportunities for the liberation of the Kurdish people, and added that the National Congress is an indispensable duty for the elimination of dangers available on the other hand.

Speaking after Kartal, KNK charter member Professor Ýzetin Mustafa Resul called attention to the government structuring in South Kurdistan and added that; “This structuring is a new experience for Kurds and it should therefore be esteemed and strengthened as well as being criticized for deficiencies.”

Resul mentioned past conflicts among Kurds continued underlining that Kurds will never kill themselves any more. It is time for unity now, added Resul.

The General Meeting continues with speeches by participants.

Recent developments on the agenda will be handled in the first day of the General Meeting, while the second day will continue with new members’ taking of oath, commission reports and planning for the new period. The meeting is expected to end at 17.00 tomorrow.
