Kurdish artist Aram Serhad has been jailed on alleged charges of “spreading propaganda for a terrorist organization” during an event organized by HDP two years ago.
Kurdish artist Aram Serhad has been jailed on alleged charges of “spreading propaganda for a terrorist organization” during an event organized by HDP two years ago.
Kurdish artist Aram Serhad was taken into custody 4 days ago for allegedly “spreading propaganda for a terrorist organization” on grounds of Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Öcalan's poster and banners reading “Humanity massacred in Rojava” and “Mother tongue education is a right” that were unfurled during his concert at an event organized by HDP in Kovancılar district of Elazığ two years ago.
Serhad was held at Istanbul's Büyükçekmece district police department for two days and he was later referred to Elazığ Police Directorate where he was held in custody for another two days.
The Kurdish artist appeared at court today, and was formally arrested on alleged charges of “spreading propaganda for a terrorist organization”.
Alongside Serhad, eight other people were also remanded in custody.
