Kurdish people flock to Amara to celebrate Öcalan’s birthday

Kurds have launched a march to Amara to celebrate the 73rd birthday of Kurdish Leader Abdullah Öcalan.

The MED Federation of Legal Aid and Solidarity Associations with Prisoners and Convicts (MED TUHAD-FED), the Democratic Society Congress (DTK), the Free Women's Movement (TJA), Democratic Regions Party (DBP) and the Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) organized a march to the Amara (Ömerli) Neighbourhood of the Halfeti district of Urfa to mark the 73rd birthday of Kurdish leader Öcalan today. Masses have been on their way to participate in the celebration since yesterday evening despite police intervention. They are chanting "Rojbûna te piroz be ey Serok Apo" [Happy birthday leader Öcalan] and performing traditional dance.

DTK Co-Chair Berdan Öztürk, DBP Co-Chair Saliha Aydeniz, HDP Spokeswoman Ebru Günay, deputies and hundreds of people came together at the entrance of Halfeti. The march towards Amara is expected to start once other groups arrive in Halfeti.
