Making the opening speech of the conference, DTK Co-Chair and Mardin MP Ahmet Türk pointed out that the politics of the Kurdish people stands for the richness of the democracy in Turkey. Türk remarked that Kurds want equality, justice, peace and unity and said that the victory is waiting for the Kurdish people. All Kurdish leaders should create the language of common politics and answer to the peoples demand for unity which is of great importance for Kurds who demand Democratic Autonomy. Victory and defeat are going head to head today. There is a heavy burden on our people and politicians today, added Türk.
Expressing his opinions about the importance of the Kurdistani Conference, KADEP President Serafettin Elci noted that there has been a search for a unity of Kurds for 316 years, since Ahmedê Xanê first voiced this need. Elci remarked that the Kurdish people want a free and dignified life and they fight because they are forced to it.
Speaking after Elçi, HAK-PAR President Bayram Bozyel pointed out that the rulers of Turkey need to open their eyes and face the truths when there is still time. Bozyel noted that Turkeys history shows that the Kurdish people's rights and demands for freedom cant be suppressed through denial and pressure, adding; Kurds want to govern themselves in the territory they live. The unity of Kurds doesnt mean uniting around a single ideology, party or philosophy, it means a common struggle of the Kurdish people, including all Kurdish parties, groups and structures with different opinions and perspectives, to demand freedom, equality and democracy. It is a right to resist against persecution.
Bozyel added that Mr.Barzani has stated that circumstances arent favorable for the Kurdistan Conference meeting due to the increasing clash environment and the allegations about a cross-border operation in in the near future. Bozyel also noted that BDP deputies should go to the Parliament for evaluating the discussed requirements for a solution.
The next speech was made by BDP Co-Chairman Selahattin Demirtas who remarked that the conference, where all circles are taking a historical step, will shed light on the future of the Kurdish people. Demirtaþ said; A unity needs to be regarded as inevitable for Kurds to go down in history as a people whose existence has procured acceptance thanks to the struggle they have given for 200 years. It is time to end the non-statusless of the Kurds now. Demirtaþ listed the common grounds of the Kurdish peoples demands as follows;
We believe that we need to come together within the frame of the Democratic Nation strategy. We dont need to change our differences and colors as we believe in the necessity of uniting on common grounds in line with the demands of the Kurdish people. This conference should establish a ground for the National Conference.
Speaking after, Freedom and Socialism Party (ÖSP) President Sinan Çiftyürek and Kurdish Movement of Revolutionary Democrats (TDÞK) Chairman Halim Ýpek laid emphasis on the necessity of self determination by Kurds and called the Turkish government to end to the ongoing military operations.
Ipek addressed to the government and expressed his three demands as the recognition of the status of Kurds and the right for education in mother tongue and the removal of the obstacles before political works.
