A big demonstration for the freedom of Abdullah Öcalan and a solution to the Kurdish question took place in Vienna on Saturday.
Halis Gimgim from the Kurdish umbrella organization FEY-KOM said that "Abdullah Öcalan has been resisting the international plot for almost 25 years, since he was forced to leave Syria on 9 October 1998." He added that "on 15 February 1999, he was kidnapped by Turkey, but his resistance on the prison island of Imrali was groundbreaking for the Kurdish people and their friends.
We say to all enemies of the Kurdish people and the powers that assume that the Kurdish struggle for freedom can be stopped by liquidating our leader that they are wrong. The ideology and philosophy of Rêber Apo [Abdullah Öcalan] means hope for all peoples in the Middle East, and people around the world are fighting for it."
Gimgim welcomed the "Freedom for Öcalan and a political solution to the Kurdish question" campaign launched worldwide on Tuesday 10 October and said that Kurds living in Austria are joining this initiative.
A representative of the Avesta Women's Council read out the text of the campaign, which calls for freedom of Abdullah Öcalan and his participation in a dialogue for a fair and democratic political solution to the Kurdistan question.
