Kurds are feeling unsafe because of the activities of Turkish intelligence service in Switzerland, Sibel Arslan, a member of Federal Council said.
In an interview with TagesWoche, Arslan demanded more commitment to protect its own population from Swiss state.
Referring to increasing Turkish oppression in Turkey and its reflections abroad Arslan said: “Many wonder if they are still safe in Switzerland. When I was in Turkey, I found out about people who were summoned because a relative in Switzerland shared a critical post on Facebook. The uncertainty is great because people here feel that their actions also affect acquaintances and relatives in Turkey”.
Arslan criticized Switzerland for not doing enough to protect its population and said that the Swiss secret service is sharing information with Turkey and it’s not showing sensitivity when dealing with Interpol arrest warrants issued by Turkey against oppositions of Turkish government.
“The Department of Foreign Affairs (EDA) is expected to be much more involved, and not only in connection with Turkey. If a Swiss citizen is arrested somewhere, Switzerland must organize a lawyer immediately. What Switzerland offers is only a hotline that hardly anyone knows about” Arslan said.
Recent increase in Turkish secret service activity in Switzerland is high on political agenda after a report by security officials.
Switzerland is home for a large Kurdish community who had to leave their homeland because of the oppressive policies of Turkey.
