Kürkçü: arrests have no legal base whatsoever

Speaking to bianet, BDP Mersin MP Ertuðrul Kürkçü evaluated the arrest, yesterday, of ten people in the city. The ten will be taken to court tomorrow.

Underlining that with the recent operations the government has begun to handle the Kurdish issue under the clamps of security policies, Kürkçü remarked that these operations are in line with the list of 1400 people published by the media as the list of the names to be arrested in the coming period. The list was released by journalist Fatih Altaylý. The recent operations and detentions fell behind the law, commented Kürkçü adding: “There is no crime committed by these people as they are committed to party activities. The detainees are peace loving people who don’t ever have any connections with arms, violence and extortion. We therefore demand the release of the detainees as immediate as possible.

Today we'll discuss this matter at our group meeting in Diyarbakir.

There will be a strong resistance against this ongoing detentions which are not based on any concrete event. Predetermined lists of people to arrest are given away and the people arrested. More than two thousand 500 people - added the MP - are currently under arrest in prisons only from the Confederation of Kurdish Communities (KCK) case.”

Speaking after Kürkçü, Mersin BDP Provincial Vice-President Mahmut Karabulut pointed out that the detentions are carried out within the context of the KCK operation.

Commenting the confidentiality on the case’s file as nonstriking, Karabulut noted that the detainees aren’t even allowed to see their lawyers for two days.

While Karabulut added that they expect the detentions and arrests to continue, not to end, Akdeniz Mayor Mehmet Fazýl Türk stated that Adana and Mersin have been the starting-points of the operations to be carried out within the scope of the list of 1400 people to be arrested. (D.F.)
