Kürkçü: Hard times ahead but we'll show another Turkey is possible

Peace and Democracy Party (BDP) Mersin MP Ertuðrul Kürkçü made statements in the Parliament yesterday regarding the current main issues facing Turkey. Kürkçü also announced the names for the Parliamentary Council elected by the Democratic Congress of Peoples (HDK) as follows; Levent Tüzel, Ertuðrul Kürkçü, Sebahat Tuncel, Sýrrý Süreyya Önder, Prof. Þebnem Korur Fincancý and Prof. Fatma Gök.

Defining HDK as a community of fates, Kürkçü underlined the following points in his speech;

* We don’t know if standing under the roof of the Parliament will protect us from the fates faced by Ragýp Zarakolu, Prof. Büþra Ersanlý and thousands of jailed people. It may not… Maybe the turn of those enjoying “parliamentary immunity” is coming now, as it did once. However, we already know the consequences from the period of former President Tansu Çiller and the war is still going on with a great violence despite tens of thousands of deaths, thousands of arrests and hundreds of extrajudicial executions. The war continues to spread among the society by deepening its roots and causes in the place where it broke out.

* HDK shares the pain of everyone who lost their lives or relatives during clashes. We don’t make discrimination among the people who lose their life. It would be nothing more than a detail to mention under which uniforms or causes the children of poor laborer farmers, for whose right we have been fighting, lost their lives in this great tragedy. They lost their lives, the powers maintained their rulings.

* The earthquake in Van suddenly cracked open how deep was the racist hate which was grown by the media that now tries to conceal and cover it up now. The danger is great. The racist hate which lives on the alienation created by conflict and war is dragging those unbiased to take sides. The real evil disclosed by those who start their speech saying that “Although the earthquake occurred in Van…” is that they say these words a result of their general and common attitude, not intentionally.

* HDK is of the opinion that Turkey’s facing with the reality of pluralist society with multi identities will be the most important opportunity to hinder the progress of mutual racism caused by the war and conflict and to create a realm of solution. We consider this multi-identity reality as Turkey’s most precious treasure in fight against racism.

* We continue to demand the release of people who have been arrested or remanded in custody in the “KCK operation”. The standing basis of arrests and detentions, the Anti-terror Law, is today one of the political means of suppression of the AKP government and a pincer directed at opponents who don’t have any practical relations with violence. An opponent in Turkey today cannot be exempted from being imprisoned on charges of “membership to the terror organization”. It is not possible to talk about favorable conditions for performing democratic politics and a democratic constitution as long as the Anti-terror Law remains this way.

* As HDK components, we will gather all objections to the monist sovereignty regime in Turkey around a real opposition movement, create an alternative government and we will see all together that it is not our fate to obey Erdoðan’s rules and to do politics as he wishes. Shoulder to shoulder with women, Kurds, laborers, those fighting for nature and life, youths, intellectuals, workers. We will see and show that another Turkey is possible.
