Kýþanak remarked that all governors made a decision to forbid entry and exit in towns and districts today following an order by the Interior Ministry. Kýþanak said; “This means to proclaim an emergency state and martial law. We are facing a government which ban all kinds of action and activity organized by citizens who want to express their opinions and contribute to the democratic struggle.”
Stating that the BDP (Peace and Democracy Party) had decided to organize this march to Gemlik as a positive contribution to the solution of the Kurdish issue, Kýþanak underlined that “Every reasonable and conscientious person in Turkey will say that the ongoing bloodshed could be ended through dialogue and negotiation with Mr. Öcalan. We decided to walk to Gemlik to call attention to this truth however we faced a conflict-intended manner. Not a day goes by without statements made to instigate nationalism. It is not allowed in this country to ask for a solution. We will be at streets with our people against the fascism of 90’s and of the AKP. The isolation of Mr. Öcalan has tuned into a hostage enforcement. The government and the state mindset should explain what they look to in this hostage policy. We demand an immediate initiation to negotiations with Mr. Öcalan and opening of the way to solution.”
Tension wash high between police and demonstrators who are staging a sit-in in Diyarbakýr after being prevented by police from leaving the city for the march to Gemlik leaded by the Confederation of Solidarity with Prisoner's Families (TUHAD-FED).
Police targeted BDP Co-Chair Gültan Kýþanak and other deputies when they attacked the demonstrators.
While a police driving a TOMA drove right into Kýþanak who was saved from being run over just in time when pulled by some demonstrators, BDP Diyarbakýr MP Emine Ayna was attacked by pressure water and a police officer insulted BDP Bingöl MP Ýdris Baluken and broke his glasses.
