The Labour and Freedom Alliance issued a written statement concerning the parliamentary and presidential elections on May 14.
Below is the full statement published on Friday:
"Turkey is going to the polls for the most important election in its history amid multiple crises. The tradition of the peoples of Turkey and the oppressed has always organized the resistance and victory against authoritarian and fascist administrations.
As is known, as the revolutionary, democrat and oppressed peoples of Turkey, we have formed the Labour and Democracy Alliance. We decided not to field a candidate in the presidential elections and to contest the parliamentary elections under the umbrella of an alliance.
As we have come to a turning point in Turkish politics, we have agreed to fulfil our historical duty to be worthy of our tradition and future generations. In this context, we would like to announce to the public that we will vote for Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu in the presidential elections to be held on May 14, 2023.
However, it should be known that the only way to achieve victory against fascism in the most important election in Turkey's political history is not just to win the presidential election. On the contrary, one of the most important ways to defeat fascism is to secure a parliamentary majority in the Grand National Assembly of Turkey. In order to do so, we call on all the peoples of Turkey to vote for the Labour and Freedom Alliance in the 14 May parliamentary election. The only way to represent all the oppressed, ignored, abused and exploited in the parliament is to vote on behalf of the Labour and Freedom Alliance and thus become a voice, power and decision maker in the parliament.
In these key elections, we call on the peoples of Turkey to vote for the Labour and Freedom Alliance in the parliamentary elections and vote for CHP head Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu in the presidential elections.
