Lawyers apply to Constitutional Court for the release of detained MPs
The lawyers for BDP (Peace and Democracy Party) MPs Selma Irmak, Faysal Sarıyıldız, Gülser Yıldırım, İbrahim Ayhan and independent MP Kemal Aktaş have applied to the Constitutional Court for the release of deputies on the grounds of 'prolonged detention'.
The Kurdish deputies in jail have been in custody for close to 5 years on remand in the scope of so-called KCK (Kurdistan Communities Union) trials.
The applications for the release of the MPs made to the 5th and 6th High Criminal Courts of Amed had been deemed appropriate by prosecutors, but rejected by the courts. Applications made by lawyers to a higher court had also been rejected.
