Before their visit to the KCK detainees and the five elected deputies in Diyarbakýr under the so called KCK (Kurdish Communities Union) case, a group of lawyers affiliated to Istanbul Bar Association reacted against the statement released by the Association after the death of 13 soldiers five days ago in Silvan/Diyarbakýr.
Lawyers including members of the Contemporary Lawyers Group, Participant Lawyers Group, Libertarian Lawyers Association and Contemporary Lawyers Association held a press conference at Diyarbakýr Bar Association Office before the visit to the prison.
Speaking at the press conference, Participant Lawyers Group member Bahri Bayram Belen stated that they are facing a deadlock due to the misapplication of the legal order and laws. Belen remarked that these deadlocks bring along serious conflicts and disputes and added; “The young compatriots who died in Silvan and the Kurdish children who died in the military operations against the ongoing peace process have serious adverse effects on peace and the process of coexistence of Kurdish and Turkish peoples. We follow the most recent statement of Istanbul Bar Association about the clash with deep concern.”
Taking about the attacks against the BDP (Peace and Democracy Party) buildings, Bahri Bayram Belen called everyone to make an effort in order to avoid this conflict environment. Belen said; “It is clear that these two peoples need to live together. We expect the government to endorse a more proactive and a more serious attitude against the developing events and to follow a path of politics to prevent these events.”
Diyarbakir Bar Association Chairman Mehmet Emin Aktar, responding to the statements about the clashes in Silvan in which 13 soldiers died, said: “We regret the use of these deaths as a justification for a racist aggression. In particular we are deeply hurt by the statements of legal institutions, which show such an aggression as right and legimate.” (B.O.)
