Lawyers in KCK trial to be investigated

Turkish Ministry of Justice issued investigation permit for Public Prosecutor of Diyarbakýr against 103 lawyers who protested against the court board during the “KCK” trial on 3 August 2011.

During the trial within the scope of the ongoing “KCK” case, 103 defense lawyers of Diyarbakýr Bar Association left the court hall to protest against the court board for not accepting their demands concerning 152 Kurdish politicians and human rights defenders.

The investigation permit by the Ministry of Justice was issued after Diyarbakýr 6th High Criminal Court filed a criminal complaint to the Public Prosecutor against the lawyers.

The majority of 40 currently jailed lawyers in Turkey is made up of lawyers of PKK (Kurdistan Workers Party) Leader Abdullah Öcalan.

As a result of an operation against lawyers on 22 November 2011, forty five lawyers were taken into custody and among them thirty six were sent to prison.
