Three lawyers attending the ongoing KCK (Kurdish Communities Union) trial left the hearing room on Tuesday.

The KCK trial which witnessed high tension yesterday as the court board refused defendants’ demand for self-defense in their mother language Kurdish continues today without lawyers and audience.

The three representative lawyers attending the trial objected to the trial which they said was unlawful.

Intense security measures were taken today as well in and around the hearing room.

Lawyer  Fevzi Çelik said that they will not attend today’s hearing to protect their professional dignity as the trial has been held closed despite the lack of any legal ground in this respect.

Today’s hearing started with gendarmerie units’ preventing lawyers from entering into the hearing room in Silivri Prison Compound in Istanbul. Although the other lawyers of the case informed the court board about the gendarmerie block, the board claimed that it cannot do anything about the gendarmerie control outside the building.

Lawyers who left the hearing room to protest against the court board were attacked by gendarmerie outside the building.

Following a break in the hearing, the audience was also not allowed into the room on the grounds of hooting the court board down. Lawyers were once again not allowed into the hearing room as they were not wearing their name tags on.

The trial continued without lawyers and audience as the court board wanted to perform identification on defendants who however turned their back on the court board and refused to answer the questions without their lawyers.
