In a visit to Mersin to attend BDP Women’s Council Meeting, BDP co-chair Gültan Kýþanak, Group chair Pervin Buldan, Diyarbakýr deputy Nursel Aydoðan and Diyarbakýr Provincial chair Zübeyde Zümrüt paid the first visit to Akdeniz Municipality Mayor M. Fazýl Türk as well as ÝÞTAR Counseling Center for Women which conducts works within the body of Akdeniz Municipality and the Training Support House whose materials were seized by police as a result of a raid ten days ago.
In a statement during the visit, Peace and Democracy Party co-chair Gültan Kýþanak underlined the importance of Akdeniz Municipality’s work for women and children.
"Local governances is an area - she said - to which we give particular importance because of the fact that local governances shoulder the mission of building democracy, solving our social problems, including the people in governances and providing the people with the life they deserve to live. While the central government imposes management mechanisms that restrict the municipalism with collecting garbage and doing cleaning, governments have with us started to put signature to works with social content. We are aware of the fact that the central government has waged a war against our municipalism perspective by means of arrests, operations and restriction of our financial sources. However, I believe all our friends conduct their works with determination and self-devotion, which will be an answer to the attacks of the government. That is why we achieve a stronger success in each election."
Following the visit to Mayor Türk, Kýþanak and the group visited the Training Support House and held talks with students. Kýþanak underlined that Akdeniz Municipality and the works it has conducted have put signature to sample and remarkable projects.
