The Kurdish canton of Afrin in Northern Syria is under attack from Turkey, the second largest standing army in NATO. Afrin has doubled its population in the last few years as refugees from all over Syria flocked to the region as one of the safest and most stable parts of the country. Now they face aerial bombardment whilst the YPG and YPJ - the heroic forces that fought and defeated ISIS in Northern Syria - attempt to repel the invading Turkish forces and Turkish-backed jihadists.

Despite Turkey's infringement of the Geneva Convention with its unprovoked attack on a civilian population, the international community has been almost silent on the plight of the people of Afrin who have faced full military attack since Saturday 20th January.

Protesters take to the streets worldwide calling for Turkey to cease its war on the Kurds.
