March to ask freedom for Öcalan

Demonstrators took to the streets in Yüksekova (Hakkari) on Monday to protest against the isolation regime imposed on Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) leader Abdullah Öcalan who has not been allowed to meet his lawyers since 27 July 2011.

Slogans in favor of the PKK were shouted and banners for freedom for Öcalan were carried. Speaking at the demonstration, Peace and Democracy Party (BDP) Yüksekova chair Rüstem Demir criticized the indifference of the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) towards the indefinite hunger strikes and the demands of the Kurdish people. Demir has emphasized that the Kurdish people will continue the struggle for liberation by all means.
