The Penal Department No.9 of the Supreme Court has confirmed the six year and eight month prison sentence for Çukurca (Hakkari) mayor Mehmet Kanar. He was found guilty of "deliberately helping an illegal organization".

On the other hand, in Istanbul four people, including three Peace and Democracy Party (BDP) members, were taken into custody in raids carriedo out by police on Monday. The detained people have been taken to the Anti-Terror Unit of the Istanbul Police Department.

Three people were also jailed in Adana and Ankara on Monday in connection with an explosion in Ankara on 20 September 2011.
