Thousands of people have gathered in Kadýköy district of Istanbul for the public demonstration organized in the 31st anniversary of the September 12 1980 military coup.
In Diyarbakýr the police did not allow a similar demonstration.
People are demanding the reformation of the constitution and the trial of the coup generals. Among the demonstrators are 78'ers Federation, Platform of Soldier Opponents against Military Coups, ESP, EHP, EMEP, BDP, EDP, TMMOB Istanbul Provincial Coordination, KESK, political parties, unions and democratic mass organizations.
Also at the meeting are BDP Istanbul MPs Sabahat Tuncel, Sýrrý Süreyya Önder and Block deputy Abdullah Levent Tüzel who carry photos of the executed and disappeared revolutionaries.
The Platform of Soldier against Military Coups, formed by soldiers detained, tortured and dismissed from the army during the military coups in 1971 and 1980, carried photos of soldiers who were killed in detention in the 1980 junta.
In Diyarbakýr the demonstration has been organized by 78'liler Federation and Tutuklu ve Hükümlü Ailelerin Hukuk Dayanýþma Dernekleri Federasyonu (TUHAD-FED, Federation of family and relatives of the prisoner). The organizers intended to march from Koþuyolu Parký to Diyarbakýr E Tip prison, but police are saying the march will not be allowed.
