Meeting on Rojava in UK House of Commons

A meeting was held in the UK House of Commons on the developments in Rojava. In the meeting it was stated that the model implementing Ocalan’s ideas should be protected.

The London based platform Centre for Kurdish Progress held a meeting in the UK House of Commons on the latest developments in Rojava.

The meeting was hosted by Labour Party MP Lloyd Russell-Moyle, who is also the UK House of Commons Solidarity With Rojava Group’s chairperson. Renowned Dutch journalist Wladimir Van Wilgenburg attended the meeting as a speaker. Representatives from various political groups, academics and journalists were also present in the meeting.

“SDF DEVELOPED A PROGRESSIVE MODEL”

Journalist Wilgenburg said, “Northern and Eastern Syrian region is much better off than its neighbors in that it is the most developed and progressive region in the country, despite having to deal with problems.”

Wilgenburg continued: “The Syrian Democratic Forces, continuing their struggle under the lead of the Kurdish people, have developed the most progressive administrative model in the region and have achieved significant gains in women’s rights, minority rights and democracy.”

Wilgenburg pointed to the Turkish state attacks and warned that the US decision to withdraw would render the future of the region unclear.

Wilgenburg said US President Donald Trump’s statement is independent from the US State Department and the Defense Department, and that it looks like a comment made with concerns for domestic politics.

“THERE COULD BE GREAT RESISTANCE”

Wilgenburg added that there could be a great new wave of refugees in the region and added that progressive developments would be threatened, and great resistance could emerge in the region.

“THE MODEL CREATED THROUGH OCALAN’S IDEAS SHOULD BE PROTECTED”

Host MP Lloyd Russell Moyle said he visited Rojava in April this year and saw the developments in the region first hand. Moyle stated that any steps to jeopardize the success of the model implementing Kurdish People’s Leader Abdullah Ocalan’s ideas will be highly irresponsible.
