A delegation representing the Cultural Association of Migrant Workers from Turkey (ACTIT) and Democratic Kurdish Council in France (CDK-F) had a meeting with the French branch of Amnesty International (AI) regarding the struggle and hunger strike protests against the isolation of Abdullah Öcalan.

The meeting was attended by ACTIT and CDK-F representatives and Amnesty International representative Nicolas Krameyer.

CDK-F representative condemned the silence of the French government on the fascistic practices and pressures of the Turkish government because of the economic and political cooperation between the two countries.

CDK-F representative pointed out that attacks against basic human rights were ignored in Turkey, citing the police violence against the mothers of prisoners on hunger strike.

ACTIT representative provided information about the solidarity hunger strikes and other actions prompted by the socialist and communist circles in Europe with the motto “let’s break the isolation, tear down fascism”, asking Amnesty International to show the sensitivity expected of it.

The representatives of both institutions urged Amnesty International to meet with the Commitee fort  e Prevention of Torture (CPT) and schedule visits to Imralı and other prisons to inspect the conditions of isolation in situ.

The representatives also asked AI to issue a statement on the isolation of the Kurdish People’s Leader.

Amnesty International representative Nicolas Krameyer stated that the Turkey desk of their organization was working on the files about the matter and was closely monitoring the hunger strike protests against isolation.

Krameyer promised that he would submit the information and dossiers handed in to him to their centre and try to create awareness on the subject.
