In Paris on Monday afternoon, several thousand people took part in a march in memory of Emine Kara, M. Şirin Aydın and Abdurrahman Kızıl. The three Kurds were shot dead by an attacker last Friday near a Kurdish cultural centre in the heart of the French capital, and another three people were injured. The man is to be brought before a magistrate later today.
The umbrella organisation "Democratic Kurdish Council in France" (CDK-F) called for the memorial march for Emine Kara, who bore the nom de guerre Evîn Goyî, M. Şirin Aydın, who was known under his stage name Mîr Perwer, and the patriot Abdurrahman "Apo" Kızıl. "On the one hand, we want to commemorate the victims with dignity and on the other hand, we want to put an end to the impunity for political assassinations of Kurds," said a spokesperson.
The memorial march resembled a sea of purple flags. Many people had brought purple flags with the images of Sara, Rojbîn and Ronahî. At the head of the demonstration, members of the Kurdish community carried photos of the victims of both Paris massacres. Behind them walked members of the Kurdish cultural movement Tev-Çand, to which Mîr Perwer had also belonged.
"Martyrs are immortal", "Femme, Vie, Liberté" (Woman, Life, Freedom) and "Truth and Justice" were shouted in between. The CDK-F spokesperson gave a speech in which she made clear the anger and sadness within the Kurdish community in the face of the murders of their members. "We demand justice," the activist said. She stressed that Friday's triple murder could have been prevented if the 2013 massacre had been solved and those responsible held accountable. "We condemn this ignorance of the right to justice and truth. As the Kurdish community, we call on France to make great efforts to fully investigate both Paris massacres and punish all perpetrators, thereby bringing justice to the victims. Justice must not be sacrificed again to political interests."
