As the hunger strikes of PKK and PJAK prisoners in Turkish prisons continue since 15 February, 500 prisoners more are joining the strike as of 24 April. The number of prisoners on hunger strike has reached two thousand.
In a statement on the hunger strikers demand for freedom for Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) leader Abdullah Öcalan, Deniz Kaya said the followings on behalf of PKK and PJAK prisoners;
The police-soldier terror on our people, institutions and their workers continue uninterruptedly despite all the calls we have made so far. Still, the Turkish state and the AKP government have not given an end to the attacks on our leader and people; they have on the contrary disallowed our people to celebrate their day and attacked Newroz celebrations, made rehearsals for mass slaughter, ravenously attacked civilian and defenseless people and didnt not abstain from manifesting its racist and massacre face by leading to the dead of a patriotic Kurdish citizen, injury of dozens of people and arrest of hundreds of people.
