Mothers of prisoners on day 39 of protest in Gebze

Mothers of prisoners continued their protest in front of the Gebze Prison on day 39 and demanded an end to the isolation.

Families drawing attention to the hunger strikes and death fasts by their children against the Imrali isolation continued their vigil in front of the Gebze Type M Closed Prison on the 39th day.

Lawyers for Freedom (OHD) and many members of the public attended the vigil. The families gathered in front of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) Gebze District Offices and took off towards the prison but were cut off on the Bagdat Avenue as they drove near.

MOTHERS PROTEST THE POLICE

Families stepped out of their vehicles and wanted to walk to the prison, but the police surrounded them and said the Kocaeli Governorate issued orders banning their passage. The families then started a sit-in where they were.

The prisoners’ mothers protested the police and said, “We are mothers, anything we want we want for our children. You are disrespecting us.”

The families will gather again tomorrow.
