Kurds and their friends met in Vienna for a Newroz reception organized under the leadership of the Democratic Kurdish Society Federation in Austria (FEYKOM).
More than two hundred friends of the Kurds attended the Newroz reception in the city hall organized jointly by FEYKOM and the mayor.
Ambassadors from Japan, Italy, Ireland and Czechoslovakia, members of the KNK (Kurdistan National Congress), councillors, parliamentarians, journalists, representatives of non-governmental organizations, former HDP Mayor Leyla İmret and ninth Vienna Mayor Saya Ahmad attended the reception.
This year Jina A. delivered the opening speech of the reception. Jina A. defined Newroz as a day of resistance and addressed the invasion attacks of the Turkish state in Kurdistan.
Vienna State and Assembly Deputy Şafak Akçay from SPÖ, Green Party Austrian National Assembly Member Ewa-Ernst Dziedzic, SPÖ Austrian National Assembly Member Harald Troch, Saya Ahmad, Kurdistan National Congress member Adem Uzun, HDP Germany representative Leyla İmret also attended the reception.
While Adem Uzun invited the participants to welcome the next Newroz in Kurdistan, Şafak Akçay raised concern over the discrimination against the Kurdish and Alevi population in the areas struck by the earthquakes on February 6.
Eva-Ernst-Dziedzic, Green Party Austrian National Assembly Member, highlighted the destruction caused by the AKP-MHP government in the earthquake areas.
SPÖ Austrian National Assembly Member Harald Troch said: “It is possible to say goodbye to Erdoğan only by voting in favour of the HDP.”
While Kurdish artist Hamid and his team appeared on the stage to perform songs, renowned Kurdish singer Şivan Perwer, a special guest to the reception, contributed to the event with his songs.
Participants were also invited to another event at Gasometer Gurgelgasse in Vienna at 13.00 this Sunday.
