Müslim: We are creating a new society in Rojava

Latest developments in Syria and the Middle East were discussed at a panel discussion organized by Civaka Azad and Rosa Luxemburg Association at University of Hamburg in Germany.

Democratic Union Party (PYD) Co-Chair Saleh Muslim and German Left Party MP Jan van Aken spoke at the panel discussion.

Hamburg Left Party deputy Cansu Özdemir who moderated the panel and held the opening speech told about the Rojava model, the democratic system established by the PYD and the struggle of the women in all areas. Özdemir said the Rojava system was a self-administration model that could be held up as an example also by Europe.

PYD co-chair Saleh Muslim who started his speech by commemorating Rosa Luxemburg provided summary information about the history of Rojava, pointing out that the recently stepped up attacks targeted the newly built democratic self-administration model that has created a change in the Middle East.

"Having been oppressed, killed and ignored for 200 years, we are longing very much for democracy now. This is why we decided to create a new society together with all the segments of the society living in Rojava", Muslim said, remarking that neither the Syrian nor the Turkish regime wanted to recognise this model because they feared democracy.

Speaking after, German Left Party MP Jan van Aken who visited Rojava last January said that the Rojava model was a huge source of hope for humanity. Criticising the German government for supporting Turkey and not ever putting Kobanê on the agenda, Jan van Aken noted that even the provision of humanitarian aid was refused during the talks held on the subject.

The Left Party MP continued by demanding the removal of the ban on the PKK (Kurdistan Worker's Party) in Germany.
