Netherlands cancels flight permit for Turkish Foreign Minister

Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu who was set to fly to Rotterdam, Netherlands today has been banned from flying into the country.

The government of the Netherlands has cancelled flight permit for Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu who had announced his planned flight to Rotterdam today for a “meeting with citizens” ahead of the April's referendum despite continued opposition from the Dutch government.

A written statement by the Dutch Foreign Ministry said that flight permit of Çavuşoğlu has been cancelled due to his threats of "heavy sanctions" against the Netherlands as talks between Dutch-Turkish officials continued for an acceptable resolution on the matter.

Prime Minister of the Netherlands Mark Rutte made it clear recently that: “We do not want him holding rallies in the Netherlands. He can come to visit the Mauritshuis museum or see the tulips.”

The ministers of Turkey's ruling party AKP have faced repeated cancellation of their meetings and rallies around Europe recently, including from Germany, Austria, Netherlands and Switzerland.
