Speaking at the Newroz celebration in Istanbul, where thousands of people gathered, Peoples' Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party) Co-Chair Tuncer Bakırhan said, "Newroz is the struggle of Hrant Dink, Mother Berfo, Saturday Mothers, Berkin Elvan, Emine Şenyaşar against the AKP-MHP government. Today you have once again proved to our enemies that we are not finished, that we are getting stronger and growing."

Bakırhan said, "I bring you the greetings of Selahattin Demirtaş, Gültan Kışanak, Figen Yüksekdağ and thousands of freedom prisoners behind bars. To the prisoners on hunger strike to break the isolation, we say 'Happy Newroz'. We will break the isolation in prisons and liberate all prisoners."

In his speech, Bakırhan emphasized that Turkey's most fundamental problem is the Kurdish question and that it must be solved through dialogue and negotiations.

Bakırhan expressed his belief that the Kurdish question of the second century will be solved through negotiation and dialogue, and stated that the Kurdish people have been struggling against oppressors since the beginning of history and will continue to do so.

Bakırhan said, "The key to the solution of the Kurdish question is in İmralı. We stand behind the democratic solution declaration Mr. Öcalan presented at the 2013 Newroz. The 2013 declaration is very important and valuable. In one of his books, Mr. Abdullah Öcalan said, 'Our fight is not against any sect or group. Our fight has always been against injustice and all kinds of oppression'. What is wrong with these words? These words describe exactly what the DEM Party is trying to do today. We will continue to be the party of the oppressed."

In her speech, HDK (Peoples' Democratic Congress) Co-Spokesperson Esengül Demir criticized the anti-Kurdish policies of the government.

Esengül Demir said, "They are enemies of women, workers and Alevis. We will light the fire of unity and struggle against this order at Newroz. 2024 Newroz will raise unity. Long live our resistance."

Esengül Demir also drew attention to the isolation of Abdullah Öcalan and the violations of rights that prisoners are subjected to, and stated that the physical freedom of Abdullah Öcalan must be ensured in order to achieve peace.

The celebration continues with enthusiasm.
