Newroz reception at Australian state parliament

In Sydney, Australia, a Newroz reception was held at the New South Wales State Parliament.

The reception for Newroz was led by Green Party Deputy Jamie Parker and Labor Party Deputy Stephen Bali in this country's southeastern state.

The reception was attended by deputies from the Greens, Labor Party, Christian Democratic Party, and independent deputies. Among the visitors at the reception were 15 parliamentarians, lawyers, and intellectuals.

Parker used the Kurdish phrase "Newroz pîroz be" (Happy Newroz) and talked about the oppression of the Kurds in his address.

The Green Party deputy praised the Kurds' fight for freedom and equality while wishing democracy, prosperity, and peace throughout Kurdistan and the Middle East on the occasion of Newroz.

Bali, a deputy of the Labor Party, said, "I admire the Kurdish people's determination to achieve their freedom," and noted that despite all the oppression and persecution, the Kurdish people never took a step back.

Kurdish representatives also spoke at the reception to commemorate Newroz. The event featured performances by artist Roj and the Rojava children's folklore team.
