Nine out of 36 jailed lawyers of Kurdish peoples leader Abdullah Öcalan have been released on Wednesday evening on conditions of judicial control and ban on leaving the country. The names of the released lawyers are Mahmut Alýnak, Yaþar Kaya, Veysel Vesek, Mehmet Nuri Deniz, Cemo Tüysüz, Aydýn Oruç, Osman Çelik, Hakzan Sadak and Hüseyin Çalýþçý.
The first hearing of the second KCK (Kurdish Communities Union) trial which began on Monday ended up with conditional release for nine lawyers among 50 suspects, 37 of whom are jailed, including journalist Cengiz Kapmaz.
The release for nine lawyers was ruled on the basis of sentence reduction for the crime of aiding and abetting a terror organization in recently enacted judicial package.
The court board ordered to join the files of all tried lawyers meetings with Öcalan. The next hearing of the trial will be held in Silivri Prison Campus on 6 November.
The lawyers who are suspects in the second Kurdistan Communities Union (KCK) trial asked the court to hear from Öcalan as a witness. The court board decided to consider this request later.
The indictment of the case claims that the lawyers who had regular meetings with Öcalan until one year ago are members of the KCKs Leadership Committee, and provide communication between the PKK leader and the PKK.
