Monday’s earthquake destroyed all buildings in the Çığlık village in Doğanşehir district of Malatya province.
Earthquake survivors in the village are looking for shelter under freezing temperatures. Residents from rural areas told Mezopotamya news agency that there were no buildings left standing in the district or villages. They stated that the number of tents in the whole district is only around 100. No food, drink and essential needs have been provided for them.
Resident Mehmet Avşar, whose house also collapsed, said: “We live in the village of Çığlık in Doğanşehir. The entire town is in ruins. There is no one helping us here. We do not have electricity. We have no food. We cannot enter our house because it is damaged. We have a kitchen outside, we stay there. We also take in other people from outside. Nobody has come here to help us. Neither state officials nor AFAD (Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency) teams have come.”
