In order to end the isolation against Kurdish people's leader Abdullah Öcalan and to ensure his physical freedom, a march will be held in Gemlik in many cities of North Kurdistan and Turkey this Sunday.

They are putting peace in isolation

Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) Şırnak MP Nuran Imir spoke to ANF about the 'Great Gemlik March'.

Stating that the isolation in Imrali has spread to all Turkish prisons, Imir said: "In an environment where coffins are coming out of prisons every day, we see that the isolation is not limited to Imrali, but it has spread to all areas of life. The isolation in Imrali is actually applied to all Kurdish people. Peace is being put in isolation. Mr. Öcalan has been calmly voicing and fighting for peace for the Middle East for 23 years. For 23 years, the AKP-MHP government has been trying to suppress Mr. Öcalan's struggle for peace by deepening the isolation imposed on him. The only way to break all this chaos is to break the isolation.”

A new war concept

Imir said that the Turkish state has put the country in a deadlock with a new concept of war: “They introduced a new concept of war to suppress and silence all voices, from workers who want peace and democracy to cross-border operations, and to eliminate the Kurdish freedom movement. For this concept to come to life, the voice of Mr. Öcalan, who is the voice of peace, should not reach the people. The AKP, which lost the elections on 7 June 2015, has tried to rule the country with a war policy by partnering with the MHP since that day. Now, a new election is at the door and we are seeing an AKP-MHP fascist government that escalates the concept of war like the previous election processes. They are trying to keep themselves alive with the isolation implemented in prisons, cross-border operations, and daily operations against our party.

Imir said that the AKP-MHP government "made the country as a whole unbearable," and added: "They dragged it into a great economic depression. They are trying to consolidate the ground that organizes and triggers nationalism with the military operations in South Kurdistan and Rojava. For this, we are faced with a government that resorts to all kinds of dirty calculations.

They are aware that the chaotic environment created by the Kobanê Case, the case, the attempt to close our party or the arrest of dozens of our party members and voters is now coming to an end.”

'The person who can break peace is Abdullah Öcalan'

Emphasizing that Kurdish people's leader Abdullah Öcalan is the most important person to pave the way for peace, Imir said: “There was a solution process that took place thanks to the efforts of Mr. Öcalan. In such a process, everyone clearly saw that if there is one person who will pave the way to the end of this war and the establishment of peace in Turkey, this is Mr. Öcalan. Today, again, in a process that is completely blocked, in the middle of chaos and war, if the gate of Imrali Island is opened, Mr. Öcalan has the power to bring peace. For this reason, Mr. Öcalan should meet with his lawyers and the isolation should be lifted."

Architect of the women’s movement

Imir said: "Mr. Öcalan is the architect of the women's movement and Kurdish women owe a lot to him. His physical conditions and isolation affect women first and foremost. We women will always struggle to ensure that Mr. Öcalan's demands come to life. It is men who create war, but it is women who stand against wars and can stop them. The end of Imrali isolation means the end of the oppression on us women. The concept of war created affects every segment, every field, but women are most affected. We will march for this and we will not give up.”
