Official launch of UK representative office of the Syrian Democratic Council on 9 March

the official launch of the UK representative office of the Syrian Democratic Council

The UK representative office of the Syrian Democratic Council will be launched on Tuesday 9 March in Jubilee Room, House of Commons between 18:30 and 21:00 pm.

The reception is jointly hosted by Feryal Clark MP, Crispin Blunt MP and Lloyd Russell-Moyle MP.

Ms Ilham Ahmed, co-president of the Syrian Democratic Council (MSD) will be at the reception.

The MSD leads the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) and represents all the ethnic and religious groups in the region. The AANES took a leading role in defeating the Islamic State group in Syria, and over the past few years, it has managed to build an inclusive and representative government. It continues to work towards building a democratic and plural Syria. The SDC welcomes President Joe Biden’s recent promise to continue supporting the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and AANES and believes that a peaceful and stable Syria can only be built if all Syrians participate in the efforts to end the ongoing conflict.

Ms Ahmed will arrive in the UK following her visit to the US, where she has held meetings with government officials, Representatives and Senators and representatives of non-governmental organisations. During these meetings, she discussed the current situation in Northeast Syria, including the continuing efforts to address the region’s security and humanitarian challenges.
