Kürkçü: No official step taken to expose truth about Roboski massacre

Speaking at the press conference by Peoples Democratic Congress (HDK) City Council in Mersin which called on authorities to disclose who gave the order to fire in Roboski massacre, Peace and Democracy Party (BDP) Mersin MP Ertuðrul Kürkçü underlined that no official step has been taken to uncover the massacre to date.

Kürkçü pointed out that the order to fire was given by the Prime Minister and the General Staff and underlined that neither the General Staff nor the government could evade responsibility for the massacre.

Remarking that the Parliamentary Commission on Human Rights sticks to the information and documents provided by the Interior Ministry, Prime Ministry and the Presidency of General Staff, Kürkçü said that; “It will be difficult to come to a significant conclusion unless the Commission sticks to its own authority. We obviously see that the Commission is under the pressure of AKP deputies, the government, the General Staff and invisible powers.”

Kürkçü addressed comments to Turkish Armed Forces and stated that; “It is obvious that a security mechanism will come to nothing if it fails to distinguish civilians from armed fighters.”

Reminding of the suit BDP has prosecuted to the International Criminal Court against the state, Kürkçü noted that Turkey has been sued for slaughtering its own people. Kürkçü pointed out that the Roboski massacre cannot be covered up and added; “The government believed the relatives of victims would draw back after receiving material compensation but it bitterly forgot to take the honor of people into consideration.”
