Speaking at the public meeting of Alibeyköy residents who object to the demolishment of their house within the scope of Urban Transformation Project, Peace and Democracy Party (BDP) Istanbul MP Sýrrý Süreyya Önder underlined that “Today is the day to get organized. Nobody will claim your rights unless you do and we will be standing by your side, shoulder to shoulder, when you claim your rights.”
Önder remarked that the ruling AKP (Justice and Development Party) asked for freedom and democracy for the rich and noted that AKP police, soldier and panzers attacked the people who demanded their rights. Referring to the AKP government, Önder asked “If you trust in democracy and yourself, then why do you apply cruelty on workers, producers and poor people when they claim their rights?”.
Underlining that the AKP government put forward the possibility of an earthquake as an excuse to get unearned income, Önder added that; “They are doing these new arrangements to multiply their wealth. Having already sold everything, the AKP is intending to sell the possessions of the poor people now.”
The public meeting in Istanbul was also attended by Republican People’s Party (CHP) Istanbul MP Aykut Erdoðdu who said the followings; “AKP claims that Turkey’s economy is growing more and more every day but on the other hand we borrow millions of dollar from foreign countries. The AKP sold the possessions of the government and thus burdened the people with debt as well.”
