One soldier died in Çukurca (Hakkari) as a result of clashes between Kurdish guerrillas and Turkish soldiers.
On Monday the HPG (People Defense Forces) had released the names of the 7 Kurdish guerrillas who lost their lives in the Dersim area on 26 April.
The PKK guerrillas are in a self defense position after calling off on 1 March 2011 the unilateral ceasefire which was first call on 13 August 2010. The PKK announced back in March to call off the ceasefire but maintain a non attack position. The Kurdish guerrillas though were entitled to defend themselves if attacked.
In its statement on 1 March the People’s Union of Kurdistan (KCK) the organization blamed AKP government's negative politics against Kurdish people. But KCK said the guerrillas will now attack the Turkish army but will stay in a self-defense position. “Our guerrilla units will follow an active-defense strategy” the statement read.
Active-defense means -as previously defined by the KCK- that Kurdish guerrillas may target the military if there is a preparation of an attack and can make retaliatory attacks. KCK blamed Turkish government on the failure of the peace process and said that Turkish side continued military operations against the Kurdish guerrillas and it's campaign against the Kurdish politicians.
