Overseas voting for Turkey’s presidential and parliamentary elections begins

Voters abroad have begun to head to the polls for the parliamentary and presidential elections to be held in Turkey on May 14 .

Overseas voting has begun today and will continue until May 9 at representations in foreign countries. Voters may also cast their votes at customs stations until May 14.

ABOUT 3 MILLION 500 THOUSAND REGISTERED VOTERS

According to the Supreme Election Board, 4,671 ballot boxes have been set up at customs stations for overseas voters.

3,416,98 people are expected to cast their votes abroad, including 277,646 first-time voters.

Voting at foreign representative offices will be possible between 09.00 and 21.00 local time on weekdays and weekends, and between 09.00 and 18.00 in cities where there are consulate generals.

MOST VOTERS ARE IN GERMANY

According to Supreme Election Board data, the highest number of voters is in Germany with 1,501,152 voters. Germany is followed by France with 397,086 voters and the Netherlands with 286,753 voters.

VOTING BEGINS IN BERLIN

Voters gathered in the early hours of the morning in front of the Turkish Consulate in Berlin and began to cast their votes.

According to the Labour and Freedom Alliance Berlin Coordination, voters will be taken to the polls between April 27 and May 9 by 46 vehicles from the election offices of the alliance in Wedding, Kreuzberg and Neukölln.

In Berlin, votes will be cast at 10 ballot boxes on weekdays and 12 ballot boxes on weekends. Those from the surrounding cities will be transported to the polls in Berlin.

Buses will also depart from the Democratic Community Centres in Dresden and Halle.

Vehicles will transport voters in Chemnitz to the polls every day.

Buses will also depart from Magdeburg and Leipzig.

220 observers will take care of election safety in Berlin on behalf of the Green Left Party.
