Parlasur President issues call to international community

Mercosur Parliament (Parlasur) President Oscar Alberto Laborde condemned the Turkish state's recent attacks, including those on Maxmur and Shengal, and urged the international community and institutions to take action.

Reminding that international law allows the use of diplomatic and economic sanctions, as well as military sanctions, if necessary, to states that threaten global peace and security, Mercosur Parliament Speaker Oscar Alberto Laborde emphasized that the international community should not tolerate the Turkish state’s attacks.

Mercosur Parliament (Parlasur) President Oscar Alberto Laborde reminded in a written statement about the new wave of occupation attacks carried out by the Turkish state started on June 15. Argentine parliamentary Laborde, condemned the Turkish state aggression emphasizing that Kurds, Assyrians, Chaldeans, Christians, Yazidi, Muslims and all other ethnic and religious minorities insist on the protection of their fundamental rights and the peaceful settlement of the Turkish-Kurdish conflict. Laborde said that the last attacks will deepen the 40-year long deadlock.

Reminding that international law prohibits states from interfering with other states' internal affairs and using force, President Laborde, said that primarily, diplomatic and economical sanctions could be imposed to states that threaten global peace and security if necessary. He added that also military sanctions should be applied and added: “The Turkish state is violating international law principles.” He asked the United Nations, the USA, the Iraqi Government, the Federal Government of Kurdistan and the European Union to urge Turkey to declare an immediate ceasefire and respect human rights.

Pointing out the possibility of war and humanity crimes being committed in the region, Laborde noted that the international community should not tolerate this. Pointing out that Kurds, Assyrians, Chaldeans, Christians Yazidis, Muslims and all other ethnic and religious minorities are in danger of genocide in Kurdistan and neighbouring regions, Oscar Laborde added: “I make this call to the international community to stand against these attacks. Dialogue can be developed only within the framework of a peace process.”
