The Communist Party of France (PCF) released a statement about the Kurdish hunger strike campaign ongoing in Turkey, Kurdistan and Europe with the demand of an immediate end to the isolation regime imposed upon Kurdish People’s Leader Abdullah Öcalan.

The statement recalled that: “For nearly 50 days, fourteen Kurdish activists in Strasbourg have been on hunger strike to demand the end of the isolation of their leader Abdullah Ocalan imprisoned on the island of Imrali (Turkey). In violation of international law, he cannot receive any visits from his family or his lawyers.”

The statement noted that Communist parliamentarians Laurence Cohen, Patrick Le Hyaric as well as the Left Front’s Marie Christine Vergiat and PCF’s Hülya Turan, Federal Secretary of the Lower Rhine, actively supported the Kurdish activists in their action against isolation.

Noting that one of the hunger strikers in Strasbourg, co-president of Kurdish associations in Europe, has been hospitalized in a serious condition, the PCF said the following;

“The fight of these courageous militants is part of a larger movement that mobilizes nearly 300 political prisoners, including HDP parliamentarian Leyla Güven.

The French Communist Party (PCF) once again gives its full support to the hunger strikers in Strasbourg and Turkey. It calls on the French government and the authorities of the European Union to intervene with Ankara to uphold international legality and thus help put an end to human tragedies.

Kurds are a peacekeeping force in the Middle East. The PCF is indefectibly at their side.”
