A number of political parties, democratic mass organizations, labour and trade bodies, as well as intellectuals and artists have formed a 'Peace Bloc'.

Constituents that declared the founding of the Bloc stated that they would be defending peace against the AKP's discourses of war against Syria.

The press conference at Cezayir Meeting Hall in Taksim was attended by a large number of people including HDP (Peoples' Democratic Party) deputies Ertuğrul Kürkçü, Levent Tüzel, Garo Paylan, Ferhat Encü, Beyza Üstün, Ali Kenanoğlu, Sezai Temelli, Ali Haydar Konca, HDK (Peoples' Democratic Congress) Co- Spokesperson Sebahat Tuncel, CHP (Republican People's Party) deputy Sezgin Tanrıkulu, DİSK (Confederation of Progressive Trade Unions) General President Kani Beko, ESP (Socialist Party of the Oppressed) Central Executive Board member Ayhan Yener, SDP (Socialist Democracy Party) President Ufuk Göllü, EMEP (Labour Party) President Selma Gürkan, ÖDP (Freedom and Solidarity Party) President Alper Taş, Halkevleri Secretary General Nuri Günay, EHP (Proletarian Movement Party) and academic Mithat Sinjar.

'AKP PLAYED A DIRECT ROLE IN THE GROWTH OF ISIS'

Gencay Gürsoy who read the press release on behalf of the Bloc, recalled that the Middle East has long been in the midst of a fire which is a consequence of the policies imposed in line with imperialist interests. He remarked that Turkey has been one of the states that have directly suffered from the consequences of this war which have left hundreds of thousands dead or displaced.

Stressing that the peoples fighting ISIS attacks are on the other hand fighting against the AKP practices escalating the wat, Gürsoy said that the AKP has done all it could in order for a first depgree intervention in the war in Syria, and played a direct and indirect role in the growth of the ISIS.

The statement on behalf of the Bloc also underlined that the AKP has on the other hand promoted nationalism, chauvinism and sectarianism, unrecognized and counteracted the Rojava revolution and undertook plans for an intervention in Syria with an intention to re-collect votes in a probable early election after failure to assure its ruling with the June 7 elections.

Also criticizing the suspension of the process of resolution within this period, Gürsoy said; "We cannot shut our eyes to this situation. We are forming a 'Peace Bloc' against those preparing themselves for dark adventures of the AKP that will carry this war, which has killed peoples, cultures and displaced millions, into our borders."

Gürsoy stressed that the primary aim of the Bloc was to stand against those trying to drag the country into a civil war, and to defend peace in the country and in the Middle East. Reminding that the circle of death could only be stopped by a mobilisation of pro-peace circles, Gürsoy called on everyone defending peace to support the Bloc.

'THE WAR IN SYRIA WILL BE CARRIED INTO TURKEY'

Speaking after, HDK Co-Spokesperson and HDP İzmir deputy Ertuğrul Kürkçü described the Peace Bloc as a unity of importance and manifestation of the will to stop the arbitrarily acting governments in Turkey.

"The risk of war we are facing today has no genuine, understandable or internationally lawful ground. The autonomous governance emerged in Rojava leads a will for freedom against ISIS barbarity and ISIS monsters", he said.

Kürkçü pointed out that behind Turkey's desire for a military intervention in Syria laid the loss of legitimacy by the Turkish state and the AKP ruling. He warned that an operation against Rojava and Jarablus to be taken from ISIS could lead up to an emergence of a confrontation between TSK (Turkish Armed Forces) and the Kurdish freedom movement in four parts of Kurdistan.

"That is why we are standing against a conjuncture that will carry the war into Turkey. We founded this initiative for not only the security of other states but also for our own freedom", he added.

TANRIKULU: FIRE OF THE WAR WILL BURN YOU

CHP Deputy Sezgin Tanrıkulu who is also supporting the Bloc on an individual initiative said that Turkey, which was one of the preparers of the war in Syria, now wanted to change the course of things and carry the war into the country by conducting a military intervention in Syria.

"We know what this war will bring about. The fire of this war will burn you too, it will burn everyone", he said, and called on the AKP to abandon these plans and intentions.
