The Peace Mothers Initiative called on the mothers of soldiers to join them in a common struggle against bloodshed and violence as the Turkish Armed Forces (TSK) send coffins to Diyarbakýr, apparently in preparation for a possible land operation in the Federal Kurdistan Region of Iraq.
Spokeswoman for the Diyarbakýr Peace Mothers Initiative, Hava Kýran said, "They are making coffins for our children before they even die. Let us join together to struggle to stop this bloodshed and prevent our children from going into these coffins. Neither our children nor their children deserve to die."
Kýran explained that mothers of soldiers must look past their prejudice "They should raise their voices and say 'the state does not give our children back.' It is a pity for their children, it is a pity for the mothers. Let us come together and stop this war. When their children die in this war, mothers say that it is 'for the sake of the country.' If your children are not living freely or if you are separated from your children, what can we do with this country? I do not accept this dirty country."
