Peace Mothers held first conference in Diyarbakir

Peace Mothers' 1st Conference began in Diyarbakir with the participation of 130 delegates from Diyarbakýr, Ýstanbul, Mersin, Adana, Adýyaman, Aðrý, Van, Hakkari, Þýrnak, Siirt, Batman, Dersim, Mardin and Urfa, Diyarbakýr MPs Leyla Zana and Nursel Aydoðan,  Remziye Erenci, mother of HPG member Mazlum Erenci who lost his life the other day, Sevim Oruç, mother of Halil Ýbrahim Oruç who lost his life with a police bullet during the protest demonstration against the YSK's veto decision and Zekiye Ayýk, sister of Hayri Durmuþ who is among the leading stuff of the PKK.

We should bury the arms, not youngsters

Making the opening speech of the conference, Diyarbakýr Peace Mothers' Initiative activist Sultan Koyun remarked that all the calls for peace are responded by the state with operations and deaths. Koyun said the followings; "Our struggle will continue until peace is ensured for all the Kurdish people. In this country we need peace the most. We should join hands and build the peace. We should now bury the arms, not youngsters. The pains of mothers will only be eased by peace.

'Mothers shall never give up the struggle'

Making a speech after Koyun, Diyarbakir MP Leyla Zana remarked that the culture of death is spoken more than the culture of life in the society. Zana said the followings; "Western countries are doing their best to avoid a nosebleed but the in eastern countries, people speak about deaths more than alives. People start the day with deaths. Nowhere else in the world do mothers suffer more than the mothers in Kurdistan who have never mentioned 'revenge'. Mothers are making a loud call. If you want to hear our voices, our will, Mr.Ocalan is your referent. The 30-year old war in the country has stolen the lives of everyone, not only children's. The Kurdish people have acquired a new life in the recent years thanks to the bravery and labor of the Kurdish youngsters. I call on you, mothers not to give up the struggle till the meeting of the Kurdish people with Mr.Ocalan and with your children at mountains and in prisons."
