People detained on Peace Day appear in Court

Today, legal action began against the people detained during the September 1 World Peace Day meeting.

In Van today, three people, Aziz Aslan, Þevket Öner and Haydar Aslan, were convicted of "making propaganda for a criminal organization," and "committing a crime on behalf of a criminal organization without being a member of said organization," and sent to prison. They were detained in connection with the World Peace Day celebrations along with nine others, who were released today.

In Istanbul, 55 people, including several children, were arrested after the police attacked the crowd at the World Peace Day demonstration in Kadýköy. After waiting in prison for four days, they were sent to the Istanbul Courthouse in Beþiktaþ today.

Also, in the village of Çayçatý (Gündê Miran) in the district of Varto in Muþ, police arrested Fesih Özdemir during a house raid today. He is now being held in the district Gendarmerie Command.
