People sue government over Ilisu
Seven thousand 200 people are opening a case to object to the eminent charge given by the DSÝ (General Directorate of State Hydraulic Works) in return for the gardens and lands submerged within the basin area of the Ilýsu Dam.
Lawyer Erkan Çelik remarked that 570 people have opened a case so far in the districts of Hasankeyf, Dargeçit and Cizre, while 7 thousand 200 people are preparing to open a case soon.
“The Directorate applies an arbitrary attitude and pricing schedule against which we are opening a case.” added Çelik.
Çelik noted that DSÝ has now implemented its confiscation works in gardens to relieve the public reaction against the dam. People react to the ridiculous prices given in exchange for their gardens.
Among the villagers Rýfat Akbel tells that he won’t leave his garden without getting the price of his land which is his source of living.
On the other hand, villagers have hired a lawyer to open a case against DSÝ 16th Regional Directorate to object to the confiscation amount for 14 gardens in Hasankeyf.
